Low Maintenance Solution For Your Landscaping Needs
History

In 1993, a few traditional wall stone builders were looking for an excellent wall stone that was durable, blocky, and had an even grain suitable for splitting into patio pieces and steps. This stone could not be affected by the extremes in Vermont weather - dryness, heat, rain, snow or severe cold. The stone that could stand up to all these conditions is Munson Black Wall Stone that we transport into Vermont. In 1999, we began the permitting process to buy a tract of land in Calais, Vermont.

Calais Quarry
Quarry

This land contains large amounts of stone, similar in characteristics to the Munson Black Slate, which again is ideal for stonewalls.

This land also contains a supply of naturally fractured granite pieces - unique in nature to be found lying on a ridge of black slate.

In fall 2003, we opened the Black Rock Quarry and are pleased to offer our own local source of wall stone and granite. Around the same time, we heard rumblings of homeowners looking for an alternative to the annual application of bark mulching around their house, shrubs and gardens. This gave us another idea - colored stone for landscaping.

To meet this need, we built bulk storage bins in our East Montpelier, Vermont yard and began stocking colored landscape stones. We now carry many different sizes and colors of crushed stone from Vermont and other places.
All the stone is in it’s natural state - colored just the way it is found in nature. We do not dye, paint or stain the stones the way bark mulch is colored in the landscape market today.
